Living Hour - Seagull

Article by KevW

If you follow the music press much, then you'll have noticed that end of year list season has given way to tips for 2016 season. Everyone is quick to regurgitate articles about new acts they think will do well. We stopped doing our own bands to look out for lists, because that's essentially what we do every day, so just scan through the site and you'll find plenty we're excited about. However, if we had to isolate, say, a dozen new bands, then Living Hour would very likely be one of them, because it took a full 15 seconds of new track 'Seagull' to stop us in our tracks and just listen.

Taken from their forthcoming debut album which is due on February 19th, this is a sublime piece of expansive, shoegazey dreampop with a vocal that's simply gorgeous, a strong sense of melody, and a perfect use of distortion. 'Seagull' is rich, lush, moving and, much like its title would imply, seems to soar with ease. Living Hour's songs are apparently inspired by the skies above their home in south Winnipeg, and that's telling, because this track seems to reach for the heavens and comes as close as anyone else to reaching them. Genuinely one of the best dreampop songs we've heard in quite some time.
