It never ceases to amaze me just how many bands are in existence that have the word "deer" in their name. Is this some kind of Illuminati code or something? Add Deer Widow to the list anyway. Drawn from various bands from the Michigan scene, many of the band's members have been making music fr quite some time, and perhaps this shows in their sound which is very reminiscent of '90s alt-rock. Their self-titled 10" will be released next week and they're allowing us a sneak preview in the form of 'Bus Stops Moving'.
There are to be five songs on the 10" with a further four available as a digital download. So you'll get your money's worth. 'Bus Stops Moving' is a decent tune too, but then you'd expect that from an experienced group of musicians. It touches on alt-country while remaining very much an alternative rock song. It does what it needs to do and nothing more; surely a blessing for those who prefer tunes over showing off. The line "don't try and expect too much from me" is somehow fitting, because this is a good song for sure, but nothing more, and that's just fine.
