Chimpanbee - Through Rock n' Roll

Single review by kev@thesoundofconfusion.co.uk

Irish band Chimpanbee seem to be something of an enigma. Their label page states they've only released one single, and that was in January 2011. It would appear that after that point, three members of the Waterford band departed, leaving songwriter Ger Reid to tackle the project on his own. This it would appear, he's been doing with a new band, but the delay in new material being forthcoming is understandable. We're told that, finally, an album, 'Can't Stop Or Rewind', will be released before long.

To tide us over or remind us of the project's existence (or more likely, introduce it) is new single 'Through Rock n' Roll' which hints at the wait being worth it. This is a cracker of a tune that could be described as modern rock 'n' roll. It takes that blueprint that was laid down so many years ago and updates it with noisier guitars, more production and a fuller sound. There's soul in the vocals and the cascading piano sounds just great. Fingers crossed, the long-awaited album will be as good as this.
