Single review by kev@thesoundofconfusion.co.uk
There have been cases throughout history where records' releases have been delayed following tragedies, or names changed because of current affairs and news stories. For example, Massive Attack briefly changed their name to just Massive during the first Gulf war, Primal Scream were left with a bit of a problem with their song 'Bomb The Pentagon' following 9/11, and The Strokes also left 'New York City Cops' ("they ain't too smart") off early editions of their debut album in America following the same incident. So it was simply a case of bad timing that Royal Hoax had to delay the release of their album following the hoax radio call surrounding the royal pregnancy. Allegations of poor taste an opportunism were labelled at them, and were totally unfounded.
Royal Hoax have been around a lot longer than the few weeks since that tragic event, indeed 'Shiver Shake' was first recorded back in 2011. The plan now is for the album's release to go ahead in March, the good news is that it gives us a bit longer to listen to the exceptionally catchy guitar-pop of 'Shiver Shake' that begins like 'Trains To Brazil' by Guillemots then proceeds to stomp its way through three-and-a-half minutes of joyous, toe-tapping, hand-clapping indie. Lets keep our fingers crossed that the press lay off the royal family for the next few weeks to prevent any further hiccups, this is a song that promises a riotous and exciting album ahead.
