Lord Huron - Lonesome Dreams

Single review by

Even before its official UK release reports were coming in from the States (where it was released in the Autumn) and by those in the know that Lord Huron's album 'Lonesome Dreams' was going to be pretty special. Well, to those who are partial to any of the following genres: alt-country, alt-rock, indie, Americana and folk, it certainly will be. Single 'Time To Run' certainly lived up to expectations an now that the album is available on our shores the UK press have become similarly smitten with its expertly produced tales of the US wilderness, broken hearts and other such familiar subjects that Uncut readers live for.

We'll give them this one though, Lord Huron are quite ace and do have something a bit extra about them, even though we can't quite grasp what it is. Perhaps it's as simple as a good solid set of tunes; it's surprising how often bands pass this fundamental aspect over in favour of bandwagon-jumping or fitting a trend. Well the title-track from this album isn't trendy, it's not trying to be anything its not and it doesn't have one eye on the next up and coming production superstar to work with for the next record. Nope, 'Lonesome Dreams' is purely and simply a very well made, harmony-filled amalgamation of the genres we listed above, and you can't say fairer than that.
