You know the whole thing about having your whole life to write your first album? UK singer-songwriter Tom Greenwood must have missed the memo on that one. He decided two days before New Year's Eve that he'd start writing some songs. So ignore the first 25 years of his life then. On New Year's Day (and we have no evidence that this decision was taken after a few bevvies or with the befuddled mind of a hangover) he thought, bollocks, I'll write a whole album. Kudos to his approach. He says he has no idea of how or when it will be released but recently uploaded the first track, 'Give Up', on to SoundCloud.
I guess we should help him judge whether he's wasting his time with this whole album notion or not. As it happens, 'Give Up' is a decent enough first effort, although it won't make your head cave-in with brilliance or anything, it's still a good and not too run-of-the-mill attempt. What we will say is that it could do with a sprinkling of magic dust, just to give it that something extra. So maybe Tom Greenwood should record an album of demos first and then seek out a producer. There, some handy words of advice from someone who's never recorded a song in his life. I hope it helps, and definitely don't give up.
