Five For Free #218

Being There - In The Dark

We were thinking it was about time for some new material from London jangle-poppers Being There. Since début album 'Breaking Away' there has been a line-up reshuffle and the band have re-emerged with a slightly altered sound to match. Less reliant on guitars, synths and electronics are brought to the fore on 'In The Dark', but don't worry, it still sounds like them and is absolutely delicious.

Kev La Kat - Dreamer

Kev La Kat has been running Love Our Records for over two years now and you can find many past releases in these pages. His new single 'Dreamer' was pieced together using many different instruments and techniques (is that a Pink Floyd sample at the start?) and the result is a journey through styles that can't really be pinned down. It's in a genre of its own.

RÁJ - Ghost

This is the début single from RÁJ and although we know next to nothing about him, he could well be in for big things. 'Ghost' has already picked up national radio and online support and is another song that stands on its own. With a soulful, trip-hop vibe to start with, it then changes, becoming bigger, bolder and fuller, culminating in something quite grand.

Black Hearted Brother - This Is How It Feels

Being a collaboration between Neil Halstead (Slowdive, Mojave 3), Mark Van Hoen (Seefeel, Locust) and Nick Holton (Coley Park, Holton’s Opulent Oog), it's no surprise at all that Black Hearted Brother make a wonderful dreamgaze noise. Their album is set for 21st October, but in the mean time here's a stream of the radio edit and download of the full version of 'This Is How It Feels'.

Last Days Of 1984 - Lost Hearts

We should apologise to Dublin duo Last days Of 1984 for being a few months late with this track which they sent to us ages ago but got lost in the mists of our inbox. 'Lost Hearts' completes what has been a varied and style-mashing Five For Free by mixing electronica sounds with a more conventional song structure, resulting in a multi-faceted tune that many will enjoy.
