Savoir Adore - Empire Of Light

Single review by KevW

With Savoir Adore's new album 'Our Nature' champing at the bit and ready for its US release on Monday (22nd October for the UK), the Brooklyn synth-pop duo have released this video for new track 'Empire Of Light'. If you've already got your ears around current single 'Regalia' then you'll no doubt be aware that in the two years since their previous album their way with a tune hasn't deserted them, and further proof is supplied here. 'Empire Of Light' is another piece of streamlined pop that's easy to listen to without steering to close to the middle of the road. It's maybe a touch more sophisticated than the already pretty sophisticated 'Regalia', but in this instance that's a compliment.

Accompanied by a video filmed on the road in a cramped mini bus, it's got an addictive groove and a more reflective mood than much of their work, yet it's an incredibly classy little number that shows there's more than one string to their bow. The chiming guitars and more laid-back approach are perfect for whiling away a few hours in the sun. So it's a shame it's pissing down outside. Still, these few minutes of escapism are suitably warming and snug. Like we said before, this is how mainstream pop music should sound and the world would be a better place if TV, radio and press would stop pandering to the ringtone generation and take a chance on something different. They might even find that there's music out there that's equally as accessible but with far more style and soul. It can't be that hard, can it?
