Out This Week - 17th December 2012

Django Django - Life's A Beach

It's been a terrific year for experimental indie band Django Django. Rather than bursting onto the scene like some, their rise has been gradual and their self-titled debut album is widely regarded as one of the best of the year. From it is 'Life's A Beach', a track that's been available to download for a while but this week sees a 10" vinyl release. The perfect way to wrap up a great twelve months.

Dutch Uncles - Fester

Much like Django Django, Manchester's Dutch Uncles have had a slow but steady ascent, with a few low-key releases before signing to the excellent Memphis Industries label. Their forthcoming third album 'Out Of Touch In The Wild' will be released on January 14th and twinkly, genre-mashing new single 'Fester' is another that's been available to download for a while but sees a vinyl release this week.

Pinemarten - Falling For You

Electronic solo artist Pinemarten resides in Derbyshire where he concocts catchy electro-pop numbers that blend both retro sounds and modern production. Possibly his most poppy track to date, 'Falling For You' could see him finally make the transition from the underground to more mainstream media. The blog world has fallen for his tunes and there's no reason the public shouldn't follow suit.

Dead Wolf Club - Strange Letters

Having spent much of the year beavering away on their second album 'RAR', Dead Wolf Club follow up recent free track 'Radar' with a new single, 'Strange Letters', which will be released physically on January 14th, but being the time of year for giving they've made it available as a free download until Christmas day, so get in quick for a free fix of howling, crunching alt-rock.

OBLIGATORY RECORD OF THE WEEK

Dead Mellotron - Weird Dreams

To be quite honest it's surprising that shoegazey types Dead Mellotron haven't featured in more of these end of year album lists for 'Glitter', mind you, we haven't published ours yet. For anyone who has discovered the wonderfully dreamy and experimental sounds they make, either from the recent album or from before, you'll be interested to know that they're giving away a free four-track EP called '(is it)' from their Bandcamp page. It's pretty difficult to split them and you might as well download the lot, but we'll just about give the nod to 'Weird Dreams'.
