Band To Check Out: INDyNS

Article by KevW

INDyNS have been bubbling away on the back-burner of the Brooklyn music scene for a couple of years now and released their debut EP last year. It's only recently that they've come to our attention, upping the ante on bands giving away free MP3s to music lovers by way of an introduction; INDyNS new track 'Destroyher' is a free video download, with a choice of normal, high definition and even a mobile format. It's a confident and experimental piece of indie-rock with a slight baroque twist that's lurking just below the surface. Listen hard enough and you can hear the sounds of a chamber-pop backing hiding distantly in the mix.

Having only heard a handful of songs it's difficult to tell whether or not this is an avenue they're likely to pursue further, but tracking back to last year's EP it appears that adding subtle tones of other genres to their more general band-based sound is something they're keen on. The EP's lead track 'Champagne Girlz' uses minimal electronica to add distinction and variety and 'Anniversary' has a lovely poppy feel to it, showing they can do melody with their experimenting. There's no word on a debut album just yet, but as they've just made a new track available we're guessing we might not have to wait too long.
