Single review by KevW

We weren't supposed to be getting this three track single from Swedish noise-mongers LCTRISC (can't tell you what that stands for or if there's a way to pronounce it I'm afraid) just yet, but while working on their debut album, planned for release sometime in the coming year, the pair found they had way too many songs, so they've chosen to let us have a few of them now. Without having heard any of the handful of previous singles by LCTRISC, it's difficult to know what to expect, and even after listening to the songs here is hardly a doddle to decide what exactly they're trying to do. Other than maybe lots of different things.

Lead track 'Ka-Pew' is crunching, gothic, tribal and chopped up pop with a sinister heart. At one point it's amiable and pleasant, the next it's trying to saw through your eardrums with serrated beats. It's a little schizophrenic to say the least. Further proof that these guys want to play around with their music follows on the funky 'Spit Into The One Eye' which is like something from a 70s cop drama that's been possessed by demons and made to goddamn dance. The final track offers the most easy on the ear sounds; 'Rain Is Coming In These Parts' is still strange but it's alt-pop with minimal beats that gently glues you burst eardrum back together before testing it's working again with some harder beats towards the end. So three tracks and we're still not sure what their mission is, but it's definitely a good one.
