Coastal Cities - The Voyage

Single review by KevW

Some things seem to get earlier each year. For example, summer only lasts until about mid-June nowadays, you start finding Christmas stuff in the shops come the end of August and many music publications put out their end of year lists in November, basically shunning anything released in the final six weeks of the year (stay tuned for our lists next week by the way). So we've also had a few 'Tips For 2013' lists published already and High Wycome band Coastal Cities have gotten the odd mention and they could be in for a few more. Still in their teens, their blend of indie and dance is pretty up to date and comparable to bands like Two Door Cinema Club, Friendly Fires and even Vampire Weekend.

Basically it's a sound that the mainstream media (NME, Radio 1 etc.) will be clamouring for; it's catchy, upbeat, easy to listen to, easy to dance to and will resonate highly with their target audience. Depending on the size and quality of their set (just two singles have been released so far) they might just be one of the buzz bands of the festival season. Their music is made to be enjoyed that way. 'The Voyage' was first released as the B-side to 'Relief' earlier this year, but (maybe to give those new band list compilers a nudge) has now been given another push with this new video. Get used to Coastal Cities, you could be hearing from them a lot.
