Mansions On The Moon - It's Not Too Late

Single review by kev@thesoundofconfusion.co.uk

According to certain accounts and conspiracy theorists there are more than mansions on the moon, there are full NASA and/or alien space stations. We'll leave those ideas to YouTube though, and check out this Mansions On The Moon, as we have irrefutable proof that they exist. The US outfit have been together for a few years now, first appearing on the site back at the start of 2012 with the track 'Athens'. Oddly, an early supporter was Pharrell Williams who produced and released their EP 'Light Years' on his own label. They've also toured with Wiz Khalifa, and N.E.R.D and sparked interest from Diplo. All quite unusual when you hear their music.

The band's new EP 'Full Moon' is set for release next week ahead of them hitting the road once again, and from it is free sample 'It's Not Too Late', a great dreampop tune. So possibly not the hip-hop/dance sound you might expect given their celebrity fanbase. Mind you, listening to this track, the vocals might be soft and woozy as dreampop often is, and the song is quite downtempo and atmospheric with plenty of swooshes filling in all the gaps, but the beat is much bigger than other acts might have gone for, and they experiment a little more with sounds from those genres. All of this makes them more individual than the rest, but it's still a chilled-out wonderland to listen to.
