Five For Free #237

Trick Mammoth - Delphine (With A Purpose)

This trio from New Zealand sound like a really exciting prospect. Trick Mammoth (any suggestions how they came up with that one?) posted a few demos online a year ago and have now released their first single 'Delphine (With A Purpose)' for free ahead of their debut album next month. This is just about as perfect guitar-pop as you're likely to hear; lovely vocals, lovely sound, lovely song... just lovely.

They Might Be Giants - The Darling Of Lumberland

This is something a little different from veterans They Might Be Giants and should go some way to disproving many people's preconceptions of the band. No laurels are rested on, as they head for more experimental waters and navigate them brilliantly with the brass-fuelled 'The Darlings Of Lumberland', a track from current album 'Nanobots'.

LUVV - Us

From what we gather, Cardiff band LUVV only formed this year but are already showing signs of promise with the two songs they've uploaded for our listening pleasure. With a punky sound and production that steers clear of the Mr Muscle, they offer up something raw and full of vitality. With new bands you can sometimes feel the fire in their bellies, and that's the case here.

Evan Ønly - No Matter What

It's interesting to try and pick apart the bits and pieces that have contributed to this excellent tune from the debut EP by Evan Ønly, but reading his list of influences it's easy to see where this odd merger of '80s pop and more modern indie sounds comes from. He lists Pet Shop Boys, David Bowie, La Roux and The Associates among his influences, which makes perfect sense. Here's title-track 'No Matter What'.

Coastgaard - Beach 3 (Ocean Blue)

No, it's not a typo from us (for once!), Brooklyn's Coastgaard spell their name that way, and they follow up their fine recent single 'Kings' with possibly an even better track as a free download. Both songs can be found on their self-titled debut album which is available now, and contains more wonderfully surfy, catchy guitar tunes like 'Beach 3 (Ocean Blue)'.
