Five For Free #235

Dive Honey - Blow

Our poor "Z" key is going to get worn out if we keep featuring all these scuzzy, buzzy, fuzzy bands like this, but when you have songs like 'Blow' by Sweden's Dive Honey then they're just too good to skip past. The band deal in shoegaze/dreampop/noise-pop and other associated sounds and are currently describing themselves as a work-in-progress. I guess we'll get more info in due course.

Long Long Showers - Red Card

Also liking a little distortion are fellow Swedes Long Long Showers, a band who favour a poppier indie-type sound, as heard on 'Red Card' from upcoming album 'This And The Distance'. Check the reason for the name: "The arrangement of 4-4-1 and 4-4-2 (verse, chorus, bridge) might as well describe the line-up in a football game in which one player is suspended, hence the name 'Red Card'" Genius.

Animaux - Alaska

Experimental pop collective Animaux aren't from a French speaking nation or anywhere in North America. Quite the opposite, they're from Melbourne and have been carving their niche for the last couple of years with a few tracks released via Bandcamp. New freebie 'Alaska' will spread the word a little further and hopefully open a few more doorways for this promising band.

Francis International Airport - Pitch Paired

Yet again we're talking about another exciting band out of Vienna. Francis International Airport aren't new, in fact they've been going nearly a decade, but they're new to us. Taken from their new album 'Cache' is 'Pitch Paired', a terrific krautrock-influenced, post-punk track that bands from that part of the world seem to be doing so well at the moment. No wonder when they have these as an influence.

Vintage Moon - Tyro

The last we heard from L.A.'s Vintage Moon was the innovative synth-pop of 'Night Heights', and now they return with more free goodies. This time the sound has changed just a touch, but still incorporates some vintage electronic sounds into their own form of indie-rock, giving us a song with a groove and with substance. The good news is this precedes an EP which will be with us before the year is out.
