There have been a couple of times this year that we've featured tracks from Diamond Rugs (check out 'Hightail' and 'Country Mile'), the relevance being that that band were a supergroup of sorts and included one of Deer Tick in their line-up. It's now been announced though, that the Rhode Island group have reconvened to put together their fifth full-length which is set for release in the UK on September 30th (a week earlier in North America) and they've heralded this announcement with news of a new single, 'The Rock', which is in stores next week.
Despite the gothic looking font and arguably uninspired black background, the band haven't taken much of a directional detour. They're still making the same expertly crafted alt-country/rock that they've been doing for the best part of a decade. 'The Rock' is a song of two halves; the creepy, moody, haunting built-up, and then the explosion of sound where the band hit full steam and pound the heck out of drums, guitars and vocal chords, all whilst adding a brass section for some added soul. It shows diversity and experimentation which, it goes without saying, should get fans a little excited for the new record.
