Once more we're told that Melbourne is one of the major places to be for new music at the moment. It's home to Big Creature, a newly-formed trio who have just released this, their first single from their soon-to-be-released debut EP. It's a total Zeitgeist defining track. 'One In Front Of The Other' takes advantage of the dismantling of musical rules. No more mods vs rockers, rock vs dance and so on. Your musical taste no longer has to be a deciding factor of who you are. Want to dress like an emo? Great! But you can listen to whatever the heck you like.
Bands the world over are taking advantage of this breaking down of barriers, and on this song they experiment with electro, alt-pop, indie, epic rock and whatever else. There's no real name for it, so it'll probably just get called indie/pop like everything else. As early tracks go, 'One In Front Of The Other' impresses in more ways than one. It's not just the lack of boundaries, it's the whole composition. There are lots of parts at play here, all woven together to form a neat whole. The production is top-notch too. The only thing we can be sure Big Creature don't want to be is lo-fi. These guys are aiming high.
