Single review by kev@thesoundofconfusion.co.uk
It's been just over a decade that Akron/Family have been together, and this is something they wanted to document in the video for their new single 'Sand Talk'. This track is the second to be taken from their seventh studio album 'Sub Verses' which was released earlier this year. As well as including footage from the band's past, including live performances, there's a new conceptual section created which involves fans of the band, and this was done to try and convey a sense of where the band currently are at this point in their career.
Musically they couldn't have picked a better song, as they're known for their vibrant live shows, and 'Sand Talk' must surely be a live favourite already. This is an intense and experimental piece of alt-rock that sets the controls for wherever they fancy going. There doesn't seem to be a plan besides making a kick-ass tune, so that's what they've done. It's unorthodox, unconventional, it chops, changes and wanders of in different directions but is never delivered with anything less that total vitality. They may be knocking on a bit in band years, but they're not showing any signs of slowing down just yet.
