Single review by kev@thesoundofconfusion.co.uk
If you can imagine that Siouxsie and the Banshees were just emerging onto the scene now, then they'd perhaps sound a little bit like Oakland band Wax Idols. Having released their new album 'Discipline & Desire' in June, the band have unleashed this slightly disturbing video for single 'Scent Of Love', a video that finds frontwoman Hether Fortune inside a creepy looking house, playing the role of puppet-mater and prostitute. It's all very domineering and full of bondage gear, so perhaps not one to watch with the family at dinner.
The imagery is perfect for the music really. 'Scent Of Love' is shrouded in a mist of darkness and carries the torch for both post-punk and goth, however we're not dealing with a wannabe relic. This track is up to date and sounds new, and much of this is down to the production. They have their influences like everyone, but Wax Idols want to be their own band, and if they carry on like this then we could, in thirty years' time, be starting reviews with lines like "If you can imagine that Wax Idols were just emerging...". A look back, but the the main focus is forward.
