Maybe this new single by Brighton instrumentalists The Space Agency includes a lot of sitar because it's called 'Bombay Potatoes', or maybe it contains lots of sitar because it's just one big old trip back to the exotic, psychedelic sounds of the 1960s. It's the latter of course, and it does a great job of evoking the authentic sound of the time with fuzzy guitars and a refreshing lack of compression, something that's crushing the heart and soul out of music and has been doing so for a very long time. The Space Agency are, as the saying goes, au naturel, and it suits them.
One track doesn't make a seven inch single though, so we get an equally good (if not better) B-side in the form of 'Purple Power', again it's the same time period and again it's psychedelic, but here they go off on a surf tip and prove that they can carry that off with just as much skill. In a world that's currently not short on psychedelic records, it's sometimes nice to go back to the roots and remember the sounds that inspired the genre in its current forms, and this is exacty what The Space Agency have done.
