The Correspondents - Well Measured Vice

Single review by KevW

Is it some kind of football-related joke that The Correspondents had to delay the release of their new single and tour due to the singer having a broken metatarsal? We reckon so, especially considering 'Well Measured Vice' isn't out until the end of January. Mind you, the tour is already underway (dates below) and is taking in several countries so I guess you'd need to be reasonably match fit for that one. The London duo have been squishing genres together for a few years now and are keen to assure us that an album is on the way, which we'll guess will be taken care of sometime in the first half of next year, but don't hold us to that.

By their standards 'Well Measured Vice' is relatively normal in style, but of course their slightly sideways approach to making music means it does take the odd crazy turn or two. At its core is a 60s pop track, possibly something from the beat-group era, yet naturally they don't leave it at that. Jazzy beats are mixed with 90s big beat in some kind of trans-decade beat orgy, and the organ comes straight from the freakbeat scene that later spawned the likes of The Cramps. So we've got rock 'n' roll, jazz, psychobilly, 90s dance and modern pop in one handy package. Consider that album to now be officially "anticipated".
