Balthazar - Do Not Claim Them Anymore

Single review by kev@thesoundofconfusion.co.uk

Following on from recent single 'The Oldest Of Sisters', Belgian quintet Balthazar continue their attempt to make further inroads across the channel in the UK. With their album 'Rats' set for its UK release in February, the group have announced details of a London show at The Lexington on January 16th and unveiled the next single, 'Do Not Claim Them Anymore', which will be given a push in support of the album and released around the same time. 'The Oldest Of Sisters' had some interesting influences, with a touch of jazz creeping into their experimental indie sound, and the new one isn't straightforward either.

Again we're talking a traditional rock-type band format with their own identity firmly stamped on it. 'Do Not Claim Them Anymore' is another slow-burner, being quietly impressive at first but gaining in strength with each listen. There's a funky shuffle about the track and although you can tell it's the same band who made 'The Oldest Of Sisters', the two songs are quite different. Balthazar are a band willing to try new ideas which transform what would be nice enough indie numbers into something with that little bit extra. 2013 could be the year the UK falls under their spell.
