Single review by KevW
East London trio Former Utopia (also known as simply FU) will be putting out a limited edition 7" single in January, and if the thought of just two tracks is making you think it's better to wait for a full album, then you'll be pleased to note that your purchase will come with four download songs too, so you're getting half a dozen tracks for your money, and you can't argue with that. Over the past few years the band have been steadily picking up radio support from all the main UK champions of new music, as well as touring Europe and the UK, in fact they've recently played in Norway, so their reach is spreading far and wide.
For a first taste of the EP you can stream opening track 'A Love Like Infinity' which was recorded as live before being mixed, so it really captures the essence of the band with any veneer peeled away. Naturally this adds a more intimate and slightly rougher and edgier sound. By their standards it could be described as the calm before the storm, its ragged, lo-fi rock sound will be followed by five other tracks which we're reliably informed will be heavier and the amps cranked up a notch or two. Consider this a starter before the bigger main course.
