Single review by KevW
Well this year isn't over yet but we're already getting excited about the musical treats that may be in store for the coming twelve months. Of course there will be many returning heroes, but also a heap of new acts that are set to get us throwing around praise like snowflakes in a blizzard. We have an idea of who some of these may be already, also there will be plenty of unknowns set to tickle our ears. Many of these are gearing up for their assaults on the music world now. One such band who sound very promising are Chicago's My Gold Mask who have a new album out in February for those who missed their low-key debut.
Titled 'Leave Me Midnight', they're pre-conditioning us to their sound already with the release of new single 'Further It Gets' which kicks in with piercing guitars, Spectorish percussion and reverberating vocals. Needless to say there are a few factors there that have made our ears prick up. The distortion-loaded chorus of "oh oh oh oh" is about as simple as lyrics can get, yet sometimes it's the most simple tricks that are the most effective. If there's such a thing as bombastic lo-fi then that's what My Gold Mask have produced here. The next couple of months can't come fast enough.
