Single review by KevW
Most music fans will be well aware of Dan The Automator's large contribution to music over the past twenty years or so, but Emily Wells is less well known despite her multi-instrumental skills and several previous releases. Together the pairing are known as Pillowfight, and if you're looking for a musical match made in heaven then you're looking in the right place. Their eponymous debut album is due out on January 22nd (with a vinyl release following a few weeks later) and if this first single is anything to go by we could have something of a classic on our hands. It may be unlikely that each track will match debut single 'Get Your Shit Together', but it's not impossible.
Mixing big beats and scratching with a classic 60s soul sounds and cinematic bombast this track hauls you in immediately. Well's vocal is part street and part traditional, much like the song itself which makes it the perfect foil for the music. She part sings and part raps over one of the best instrumental tracks of the year. The horns are the same as those that inspired The Go! Team and fans of the Brighton band will undoubtedly take to this tune too. On 'Get Your Shit Together' these two have come up with something very special. We're crossing everything we've got in the hope that it's no one-off.
