Five For Free #138

Beach Fossils - Careless

Well connected New Yorkers Beach Fossils (they've included or played with members of DIIV, Heavenly Beat and Blonde Redhead) have hit the studio to record their second album, as opposed to the DIY first outing, but they're still shunning the gloss and maintaining their homemade sound. Album 'Clash The Truth' is out on February 19th and here's ace first single 'Careless' for free.

The Honey Pies - Game Show

There's been a lot of attention on the alternative scenes around Australia this year, and next year looks to be in good hands too. The Honey Pies release their third album of scruffy garage tunes next week and judging by new single 'Game Show' they're too good to go unnoticed for much longer. Could they be the next lot from down under to break in the UK? We hope so.

Amusement - Mural

In the equally exotic location of Croyden, Amusement are plotting their return with a live gig and a free download in the form of 'Mural', a song which further cements their status of alternative/R&B/indie hybrid masters. We're assuming there will be a new album on the horizon at some point but no date seems to be set just yet. In the mean time enjoy this genre-masher for nothing.

Boy's School - Talking To Myself

Brett Farkas' talent was spotted at an early age when soul king Solomon Burke named him 'Cookieman' and asked him to join his band. Now the big man is no longer with us, Farkas has spent time as a sought after session musician and is now releasing his first solo album as Boy's School. Forget any notions of showy musicianship, 'Talking To Myself' is an organ powered garage-rock triumph.

The Disraeli Gears - Skeleton

Named (we're assuming) after the Cream album, The Disraeli Gears only formed a year ago and 'Skeleton' is their debut single which they're kindly giving us for free. The quartet are three parts English and one part South African and make music that's rich and layered and a mix of soulful vocals with dreampop and alt-country influences, a little like a less creepy Portishead.
