Co-Pilgrim - Sialo

Single review by kev@thesoundofconfusion.co.uk

This will be the third single we've heard from Oxford's Co-Pilgrim, and we have to say they're nothing if not consistent. If you want to check back and listen to '22' and 'A Fairer Sea' then there are the links. 'Sialo' carries on where they left off a few months back, only now the weather has taken a turn for the better and their breezy indie sounds even fresher and sunnier than before. Plus the folk leanings have been toned down a tad here, allowing a more sunkissed indiepop sound with just a hint of jangly psychedelia to take over instead. We're probably not just suffering from sun-stroke when we say this is possibly the best yet.

They follow the A-side in grand fashion too. We don't generally feature cover versions on the site, but Denis Wilson's solo material is still relatively unknown despite the fact that 'Pacific Ocean Blue' is widely regarded as one of the greatest albums ever, and is now, finally, available on CD. To further prove the man's genius, Co-Pilgrim ignore that album and instead choose to cover the less well known song 'Lady'. They do it justice and their harmonies sound wonderful, not to mention the understated manner in which they tackle it, allowing the song to do the talking. Top marks all round.
