Interesting variation on the classic "radio edit" term here. The full version of 'Get Your Iron Aligned' is six-and-a-half minutes long, so you'd expect a slimmed down version to tempt a few extra DJs to give it a spin. So included on this single (along with a remix) is what Voltage Black are calling a "radio friendly fragment" where they've trimmed it down to four minutes. A nice turn of phrase there. A little background for the uninitiated (which included us): Voltage Black are a group from London who've been together for a year or so and their music is electro-rock with a more experimental slant than many similar practitioners.
If we take the full version we find an industrial sound, lots of clanging beats and dark atmospherics, crunching guitars that are deep in the mix and a gothic, post-punk sound to the vocals and synths that lead the song. The changing tempos are an interesting addition, and although this is just one song it has the feel of several versions spliced together; but it works. If you're a fan of music that's a little more conventional then the, uh, "radio friendly fragment" could be just what you're looking for. They successfully convert their sonic exploring into something that more easily digested for people looking for more instant gratification.
