Grass House - And Now For The Wild

Single review by kev@thesoundofconfusion.co.uk

Some bands we tip for greatness burst onto the scene within a matter of weeks (we're talking greatness, not chart success, two very different things) and others simply fade away or split up. Some take their time getting everything right and gradually build up their presence over the course of a couple of years. It's the latter that's been the case with Yorkshire band Grass House. Since they stunned us with some initial tracks in 2011 they've sporadically released the odd single whilst plotting a debut album. The last update we had was a preview of what to expect back in December and whispers of an album this year.

After retreating to Wales to get some recording done, they bring us sparse, desolate sounding single 'And Now For The Wild', a song that contains their trademark lyrics and dark sound. It's everything we've come to expect from the band and is an excellent forerunner to their album which they've now confirmed will be out later in 2013. Their line-up may have changed in the two years we've known about them, but their knack of creating an atmosphere that will appeal to fans of Nick Cave, Tindersticks and The Twilight Sad remains the same. We're now full of anticipation for the long-awaited debut, and keep your eyes peeled for some live dates which will be announced soon.
