Frank Rabeyrolles - Under The Rainbow

Single review by kev@thesoundofconfusion.co.uk

French dreampop artist Frank Rabeyrolles seems to be a busy man. You rarely have to wait for new songs, videos or remixes to appear, and this is on top of running Wool Recordings. 'Under The Rainbow' is a brand new track that didn't feature on his rather good debut album which was released last year, in fact plans are afoot for a follow-up which is currently a work in progress. The plan is for an EP featuring this song to be released in August, and then a second album scheduled for 2014. So this would suggest that there's plenty more new material in the pipeline.

As for 'Under The Rainbow', well it's fairly stereotypical of his style, taking the dreampop format and adding what could almost be a slowed-down krautrock vibe to it. You can feel the influence of '70s electronic pioneers too, but the guitar and the production mean there's no mistaking this for a vintage track. It's largely instrumental, and what vocals that are included are so doused in reverb that they're impossible to make out. It shouldn't be of any worry that the sound of this new track isn't wildly different, because it's actually one of the best things we've heard from him so far. So maybe he's got his mojo working and the new album will trump his first effort. I guess we'll wait and see.
