Electro Imagery Brazilian-Style

Article by wayoutwest@thesoundofconfusion.co.uk

A few weeks ago we explored one Brazilian electronic pilot, Raoni Santos, who goes by the name Mind Movies. As one of the more interesting underground electronica artists hailing from this part of the world, we undertake to further explore some of his creations of a different kind: remixes and collaborations with other musicians.

Over the past year, following the release of his debut album 'Dreamtronica', Mind Movies has produced intriguing remixes of such renowned South American artists as indie electronic pop musician Javiera Mena (Chile) and rock legend Gustavo Cerati (Argentina), as well as poprock group La Mala Vida (Argentina) and dreampop duo Ummagma (Canada-Ukraine), whose new single we recently mentioned.

Another recent collaboration has seen Mind Movies pairing up with prolific U.S. shoegazer Tom Lugo (Stellarscope, Panophonic, Under The Wire, Shi-Shi, Super Toys, Drowning Dreams). I really dig the Lembraille (Brazil) remix too, with the exception of the overwhelming distortion, which it seems is at least partially related to the source track.

“I need to take a different approach than the one that was taken with the original tracks, because remixes are interpretations and that's exactly what I am doing. This is my vision. Now you can see it too,” notes Raoni. “Of course, it's even better for listeners when they are free”. Indeed the remixes you find on Mind Movies Soundcloud page are all available for free download.
