Dearly Beloved - She

Single review by kev@thesoundofconfusion.co.uk

You get these fictional, imaginary fighting contests quite a lot. Who'd win out of a bear and a lion, or a shark and a crocodile. Canadian band Dearly Beloved released their current album back home last year and it's getting its proper UK release in October to coincide with a tour. The title? Well they've gone for 'HAWK vs PIGEON'. We know who our money's on. The Toronto band have been around a few years and have clearly built up a solid sound in that time, because 'She' is reminiscent of the original power trios such as Cream, The Jimi Hendrix Experience and Blue Cheer in the way it holds that heavy psych groove.

As a taster for the album (if you're yet to hear it) it shows they mean business, but as a taster for the live shows it suggests that you might be lucky to come away with your eardrums intact and without and damage to your internal organs due to bass vibrations. This is proper rock; not the dull, trad-rock that plods along in the same tedious manner as it has for decades, this has passion and fire and strength and all the good stuff that the genre was created for. If you catch any of the gigs and find anyone cowering in a corner at the back, it's probably us.
