Still Parade - Health

Single review by kev@thesoundofconfusion.co.uk

Still Parade remain an enigmatic band despite their growing fanbase. After three years preparing an album, they made the track 'Actors' available as a free download for a limited time (we reviewed it here, although the audio link has expired), and now they've announced that the song has been given a proper single release as a double A-side with the equally floaty 'Health'. We don't have a date for the album yet, but these two indicators are suggesting dreampop that could be a little different from the norm.

The band may use the term "dreamfolk" but this is too ambient to have much in common with any of the folk movements, and as is often the case, in this instance the word "ambient" isn't shorthand for "likely to put you to sleep, and not in a good way". This is a tune alright, and one that envelops guitar in layers of sound that are most likely generated by a synth of some description, but could easily be all manner of instruments put through filters. Either way, if you'll excuse the pun, it seems that Still Parade (whoever they may be) are in very good 'Health'.
