Out This Week - 16th September 2013

Potty Mouth - Black and Studs

It only takes a few seconds of 'Black and Studs' to realise they're an American band. They have that country's underground rock/indie/grunge/punk and lo-fi scenes running through their veins. Potty Mouth release their début album 'Hell Bent' this week, and the catchy scuzz-bomb guitar-pop of 'Black and Studs' is available free below and from main download retailers.

Daiquiri Fantomas - Moogchile

Having been available digitally for a month already, 'Moogchild' is given its official UK release this week. The work of Sicilian experimental duo Daiquiri Fantomas, the single is correctly described as Air meets John Barry, with an aftertaste of Broadcast. This is a cosmic, psychedelic, ambient, electronic piece that makes great use of vintage sounds.

Virginia Wing - Common Ground

If our recent feature on 'Donna's Gift' by London group Virginia Wing whetted your appetite for more, then you'll be pleased to know that their EP 'Extended Play' is available from today, and what's more, you can grab a free download of 'Common Ground'. Building to an electro-infused indie sound, there's a touch of Stereolab about this one. A definite compliment.

The Darcys - The River

As promised with the recent review of single 'Muzzle Blast', here's another tune from Toronto's The Darcys, taken from their third album 'Warring' which is out this week. 'The River' is the album's second single and is an innovative and quaking alt-rock track that, whilst not being insanely individual, is unique enough to indicate that this band don't need to borrow their ideas.

OBLIGATORY RECORD OF THE WEEK

United Ghosts - Sparks From A Cold Star

United Ghosts have crept up on us slowly this year, unveiling their take on fuzz-rock, shoegaze, psych and krautrock through free tracks 'Holes Into The Night' and 'Unhypnotized' from their self-titled album. It's time they got a much deserved bigger spot in the limelight with new single 'Sparks From A Cold Star', another cracking fuzz-rock track from the very same album. This group from Silverlake, California are proving to be better then we first suspected, releasing great track after great track. Their rock-solid album should be on everyone's list to check out.
