Keep Shelly In Athens - At Home album preview

Over three years since capturing our hearts with the stunning 'Running Out Of You', Greek duo Keep Shelly In Athens are finally set to release their first proper album this week (there's an album's worth of single/EP material available already if you want more, none included here). The first taste of things to come arrived early this summer with the single 'Recollection', a song which took their brand of chilled electro-pop and gave it a more user-friendly makeover. It promised a well-made album and potential commercial crossover ahead of them. Yes, we were always going to prefer one or two of those rougher early tracks (we tend to favour "alternative" music after all), but the potential was palpable.

Since then a further two singles have shone more light on what they have in store, and both improve on the (already great) sound of 'Recollection'. Firstly, 'Oostende' gives us more beats and shifts away from the commercial a touch more; it's a song that could be labelled as dreampop without too many qualms, and it sounded increasingly great with each play. More recently, 'Flyaway' has cemented the fact that Keep Shelly In Athens have come up with the goods, not just for the pop brigade, but for us alternative types too. Here they build an atmosphere before introducing a heady dance beat that propels the song with some force. As the saying goes, the best things come to those who wait, and 'At Home' helps to prove that.
