Dutch Uncles - Nometo

Single review by kev@thesoundofconfusion.co.uk

If you want proof that perseverance pays off then just take a look at the career of Dutch Uncles (who are English, not Dutch... but you knew that anyway, right?). We first heard about them back in our days as a radio show when they released their début album on a German label in 2009. Back in January they released their third album on the dependable Memphis Industries imprint. Take a group like Viva Brother; they proclaimed themselves the next great band and then threw in the towel when the world decided they must be having a laugh. If Dutch Uncles did the same they wouldn't have developed like this.

'Out Of Touch, In The Wild' has seen a significant improvement from those early tunes and was released to near universal acclaim. There were even suggestions in some quarters they could have been in line for a Mercury nomination. Certainly their music is more interesting, complex, accomplished and better to listen to than most current British guitar bands. New single 'Nometo' serves as a reminder that the album is there and is deserving of your attention if you've missed it so far. If you want comparisons then there are many, but none are direct enough to list here. Dutch Uncles are a band who cherry pick odd bits from all over the shop and make them fit. Oh, and this comes with a nice trippy video too.
