EP review by kev@thesoundofconfusion.co.uk
From where they come we don't know, but the members of Pueblo People have spent their lives playing in punk, metal and hardcore bands, we're guessing that Italy is their possible location. In a break from her regular style, Nicola had written some more psychedelic, garage-rock tunes that she felt needed a home, and this was the spark that ignited Pueblo People in late 2012. In February four of these songs were recorded and released right away as free download EP 'The First Four Moons'. Their background in heavier bands does creep into these tunes a little; you feel like they could burst into a thrashing, crunching beast at any moment.
Whether 'The First Four Moons' comes from folklore or is their invention we don't know either, however the first is 'Hunger Moon', an expansive piece of alt rock which is followed by 'Milk Moon'. On this track they let guitars roam free over the song, it's a bit like Neil Young joining Sebadoh (although there's no sign of a harvest moon here). 'Death Moon' slows the pace for a while before springing into life as a jangly indie number; something that may be a first for members of the band, but it's a highlight. The final moon we visit is 'Blood Moon'. This has more of a US alternative rock vibe going on and a hint of 13th Floor Elevators about its riff, and that's never a bad thing.
