Chvrches - Recover
With the difficulty in searching for some bands on the internet, it's a decent idea to alter things slightly. At least that's what we assume Scottish duo Chvrches had in mind with that name. Their EP 'Recover' is out this week and they've been getting some decent coverage in the run up to it. No wonder, the title-track is a thoroughly enjoyable piece of electro-pop.

Wild Leaves - Wind & Rain
Brooklyn-based dream-folk band Wild Leaves release their debut EP this week, seven songs written by five friends who moved from the Midwest. Made up of lovely harmonies and subtle and hazy backing, the songs are reflective in nature and chronicle the personal experiences of growing up, moving to the city and evolving into this neat new band. Check out the ace title track.

Diamond Rugs - Hightail
If you haven't heard about the weird and wonderful Diamond Rugs yet, then we can tell you they contain members of Deer Tick, The Black Lips, Dead Confederate and Los Lobos. There's a humour to be found amongst their garage/country/blues mash-up. Their self-titled debut album is out this week and it contains the hillbilly tale of lost love that is recent single 'Hightail'.

Lapland - Unwise
More dreamy sounds from Brooklyn, this time incorporating a more electronic sound into this soft and floaty song. Lapland is the brainchild of songwriter Josh Mease who was originally from Texas where he grew up playing jazz guitar. His focus shifted to more contemporary and ethereal sounds after his move and he now releases his self-titled album. Here's the beautiful free track 'Unwise'.

OBLIGATORY RECORD OF THE WEEK
Death Masks - What I See
A bit of a tough call this one. Edils Records release a split EP this week, it contains three tracks from Liverpool band Tear Talk and three from Manchester's Death Masks. There's little to choose between them but we have to say that 'What I See' by Death Masks wins by a nose. It's a quite brilliant, ringing piece of experimental indie with gorgeous guitars and a pile of melody and is generally one of those songs you can just listen to on repeat, but check out the rest of the EP for more quality tunes.
