Poliça - Tiff (Featuring Justin Vernon)

Single review by kev@thesoundofconfusion.co.uk

As you may well be aware by now, there's good news for fans of acclaimed Minneapolis alt-pop/electronica group Poliça who have announced that they will be following up last year's acclaimed debut album 'Give You The Ghost' with a second offering, 'Shulamith', in the autumn. It fair to say that they've matched the success of the band they formed as an offshoot of, Gayngs, and arguably become even more successful. The debut contained some truly great electro-pop songs that came with their own style (always a good thing) and we can recommend the single 'Dark Star' as a particularly awesome starting point.

With the new record being a few months off yet, we've only really got April's single 'Tiff' to go on so far. The song paints a starker image and is more downbeat than some of their material, but it's no doubt been given an airing plenty of times as it features Bon Iver's Justin Vernon, and this will work in its favour as it takes those few extra listens to properly reveal itself. Why are we only posting about it now? Well it was only recently that they unveiled the video to accompany the song. We won't go into details, but a word of warning: it's very intense, disturbing and probably not one to watch with the kinds. So they haven't turned into cabin-dwelling campfire balladeers just yet...
