The Immigrant Union - Alison

Single review by kev@thesoundofconfusion.co.uk

Based in Melbourne, The Immigrant Union are something of a supergroup, consisting of Brent DeBoer from The Dandy Warhols, Bob Harrow from The Lazy Sons, and four other well known players on the Melbourne scene. Having formed from a chance meeting in a bar, the band have already put out a self-titled debut album and will be following it with a second, 'Always', early in 2014. The first glimpse we get of what that album will consist of comes in new single 'Alison', a song that fits in with alt-country but also has a summery vibe that you may associate with the city's location.

There are some lighthearted and occasionally witty lyrics to the track and you can tell that all involved are experienced musicians; the song seems to flow entirely effortlessly. It's sunkissed and lively without being cloying. Backing it is another country-influenced track, 'War Is Peace', again it sounds like a band having fun and knowing that their combined experience clicks and is more often than not going to result in something enjoyable. Even more impressive considering the rather bleak subject matter.
