Hibou - Above Us

Single review by kev@thesoundofconfusion.co.uk

Just last month we featured 'Sunder', an excellent free download from the new EP by Seattle band Hibou, and now they've unveiled the video for a second track from the 'Dunes' EP, 'Above Us'. With the UK basking in (or rather melting away and getting agitated with) the biggest heatwave for years, both song and video couldn't be more fitting. Unless you've been subject to the heavy rain and thunderstorms that inevitably followed such a spell of course, but it's still blue skies in my personal corner of the country and this song is a perfect soundtrack.

With a video that uses old cine film footage of summers from years gone by, it's also very apt that these images from another age run alongside such a dreamy and otherworldly piece of music. 'Above Us' is about as summery as indiepop can be. It's reasonably lo-fi in nature, has soft and soothing vocals and guitars that glisten like the setting sun reflecting off a still ocean vista. Even if our heatwave is about to come to an end, you only need to give this track a spin and you'll be transported right back there.
