Co-Pilgrim - A Fairer Sea

Single review by kev@thesoundofconfusion.co.uk

There's been a spate of animated videos lately (of the non stop motion variety), so maybe this is a new craze developing. There have also been many British bands trying their hand at Americana and alt-country, with Oxfordshire's The Dreaming Spires being of particular note with a wonderful album last year. We've tried to think of a name (possibly a humorous one) to describe British bands making "Americana", but have so far failed. So please leave any ideas in the comments box below, the press will be picking up on this wave of bands soon and trying to create a scene out of it, maybe you can give it its name.

One of the leading lights in this trans-Atlantic musical convergence could easily end up being fellow Oxford band Co-Pilgrim who release their second album (complete with rather lovely animated video) 'A Fairer Sea' this week, and going off the title-track and current single they've just about perfected the sound. This song wouldn't feel out of place on an album by The See See, and that's a high compliment. The vocals and deft guitar work create a spaciousness that's more suited to the expanses of the ocean or a larger country than our little island, so here's hoping these beautiful sounds begin to infiltrate the UK music scene more, and maybe even make the leap across the pond.
