These guys are still pretty new and there's nothing available to buy yet, but they're worth us giving you an introduction to if you haven't heard them already. The solitary song that's uploaded to their SoundCloud page shows a great deal of promise, and generally bands improve given time to hone their writing and live performances. So here's the lowdown. Bat and Ball are fronted by Abi and Chris Sinclair who began writing music together in the West Country their early teens. Now having finished University in London they've recruited friends and fellow former students to become a quintet. They've begun performing live in this format too, so popping along to a gig should give an even broader example of where this band are at.
'We Prefer It In The Dark' was one of the songs originally recorded by the duo in 2012 and they say it's a kind of marker; a template for their vision of the band. So what should we expect from future recordings? Well they're clearly fans of looking at music in a different way; there's innovation here and what could have essentially become an indie song is full of hand-picked elements from the world of music. There's a lot of soul to be found here and the loose genre of trip-hop could be used as another influence. What's interesting is that the song is unhurried which adds a spaciousness that many would try and fill, fearing minimalism, but by the sounds of it, Bat and Ball are experienced and wise enough to spot what works and despite this measured approach there's too much here to regard this as particularly minimalist. We've definitely got them on our radar, you should too.
