Five For Free #156

We Are Animal - Royal Wolf

After their demo recordings attracted enough attention to see them get a release on a Japanese label in 2010 it's been all go for We Are Animal. The Welsh group recorded their forthcoming album in Snowdonia and have just finished a European tour with The Joy Formidable. Their mix of beats, indie and found sounds means songs like 'Royal Wolf' could be filed alongside The Beta Band.

Steel Phantoms - Friend To Friend

When we saw the name Steel Phantoms we thought we were in for some metal. Well we got guitars but more of the punky alt-rock/indie variety. The duo from Brooklyn are off to SXSW where they're sure to pick up a few extra fans if they have more songs as good as the couple we've heard. Take a listen to 'Friend To Friend' and see what you think.

New Metro - Bones

New Metro are a band based around the talents of Ben Foster, and with a collective spirit many other musicians are involved in the project. Their album 'Impromptus' was released as a free download at the end of January and contains some stunning songs, including this subtle, guitar-led piece called 'Bones' which feels a little bit like venturing on a musical journey.

Mineral Beings - Strobe

Another band formed around a particular songwriting talent are Dutch group Mineral Beings who are led by Merinde Verbeek and have their debut album 'Frames' set for release on March 1st. Expect dreamy and ethereal sounds, and some more upbeat tracks too like this pulsing electro-pop tune called 'Strobe' which glistens and sparkles with production glitter.

HUIAS - Caballo Ocaso

Our lack of knowledge of the Spanish langauge prevents us from telling you much about HUIAS. We heard about them from Love Our Records who are giving away the lovely folky dreampop of 'Caballo Ocaso' as the band's debut single. This is a special stripped down version that works a treat. As for future releases we can't be sure, but they have May 10th written on their Bandcamp page...
