I interviewed Little Comets once. They said they started out playing Bryan Adams covers, they're really easy to play apparently, so take note budding musicians, the Canadian soft-rocker could be perfect for helping you get started. Somewhere I hope tapes of these recordings exist and will eventually see the light of day. Maybe it would reignite interest in the band; since the press heralded them as bright young things a few years ago they seem to have slipped off the radar a little, which is a big shame. They've written some very good eclectic indie/pop songs and are willing to experiment with different sounds, unlike other bands who were hyped at the same time and are still churning out the same generic indie.
Second album 'Life Is Elsewhere' slipped out in the autumn to little fanfare; it deserves better, and so do the band. They've made this emotional-filled video for the track 'Violence Out Tonight', a song that's anything but generic or formulaic. Forged from scratchy guitar and inventive percussion, they add other sounds and instruments and end up with something quite unlike any other band around. What's stopping them receiving the acclaim they deserve is something of a mystery. Perhaps they're just too innovative for the mainstream but their indiepop past puts the more serious publications off covering their work. If Little Comets continue as they are this will surely change. They'll get the success they deserve in the end.
