Sue Denim - Bicycle

Single review by KevW

OK so the humble pushbike might not exactly scream rock 'n' roll and its place in musical history stretches not much further than that Queen track, but despite the gloomy clouds and lonely bicycle on the cover, this tune from Sue Denim's new album 'Sue Denim & The Unicorn' is as light and cheery as you'd expect a song of this subject matter to be. Better known as the singer and bass player from Robots In Disguise, a band known for their electro-punk leanings, her debut solo effort on her own label shuns her main band's style in favour of some very sweet folk-pop.

It's a bit on the twee side but incredibly likable with it, and lyrically it's also quite enchanting in its simplicity, while managing to be fairly witty too. The colourful animated video captures the essence of the song perfectly. Solo outings are often little more than a passing interest for fans of the band in question, but Sue Denim has struck out alone with a unique identity and a style that only miserable old gits will fail to enjoy, let's hope this album isn't a one-off. All together now... "I surrender to the power of the bicycle!"
