Tears For Annie - So John

Single review by KevW

We don't have a great deal of information to give you about Tears For Annie, and what we have got has been deciphered using our less than capable collective brain. It sounds as though this is a solo project although they refer to themselves in the plural, and isn't solely confined to music, also taking in "feminism, art, class systems, and new romanticism reborn" along with art instillations and exhibits all over the world. All of which sounds rather pretentious, but if that's what she does then who are we to argue. They/she is based in London (we're assuming the UK city as opposed to any other places with the same name) and 'So John' is taken from her album 'Minneapolis' which may or may not be available to buy.

Casting all the mystery and whatnot to one side, what this all boils down to is this song, 'So John', which is a pretty splendid piece that recalls PJ Harvey earlier on her career. It's a fantastic alt-rock track that showcases an excellent voice as well as a noteworthy tune. The video is, as you may expect, fairly arty and quite cryptic. We won't attempt to dissect it, have a look for yourself and see what you make the mixture of tears, masks and goldfish bowls. Whatever it all means we can be pretty sure that Tears For Annie sounds like a very promising project/band/concept (delete as appropriate).
