Out This Week - 5th November 2012

Melody's Echo Chamber - Some Time Alone, Alone

We fell straight in love with Paris-based Melody's Echo Chamber back in the summer with the release of her sublime 'Endless Shore' single and finally, a few weeks later than planned, we get her eponymous debut album. Current psych-masters Tame Impala are fans (enough to help out on the album) and it's easy to see why. Have a listen to the gorgeous, sparkling psychedelic pop of 'Some Time Alone, Alone'.

Big Tree - Time

Californian quintet Big Tree like things done the traditional way, and this summer they hit the studio to record some tracks to live to 2" tape and the results are out this week on the 'Little EP'. Consisting of a trio of those recordings and a trio of live (as in at a gig) recordings, the likes of 'Time' show a purity and organic sound that's difficult to fake, making for some delightfully dreamy Americana.

Prince Rama - So Destroyed

Taking us down a much more distorted and affected route are psych-rock duo Prince Rama who are embracing the forthcoming demise of humankind with the appropriately titled 'Top Ten Hits Of The End Of The World' album. If we have a listen to 'So Destroyed' it sounds as though our final days will be awash with fuzzy melodies and a collage of sound lifted from many different cultures. Top stuff.

Team Genius - Roaring

As if releasing three EPs on the same day last month wasn't enough, proficient Brooklynites Team Genius are now dropping a brand new album of original material to complete the set, making the trilogy a quadrilogy (there's an ongoing theme through the series) with 'New York Songs'. It's a rather poignant title given the events of the past week, and it's full of more experimental indie like 'Roaring'.

OBLIGATORY RECORD OF THE WEEK

Empress Of - Don't Tell Me

Completing a trio of Brooklyn bands with records out this week is the mysterious Empress Of. It's not just us who have little info on her, there's not much to be found full stop. We can tell you that her real name is Lorely Rodriguez and that 'Don't Tell Me' is her first proper recording. It's not a bad way to introduce yourself, this is one of the wooziest pieces of dreampop we've heard all year. Fans of The Cocteau Twins will fall for this straight away, and we can all hope she's got plenty more where this stunner came from.
