Single review by KevW
Earlier this year, Australians Ginger & The Ghost released what they describe as a "teaser track", basically putting out feelers and making their presence known. The reception was highly favourable, and since then they've been putting the finishing touches to their debut EP which is due out in the spring. The first single to be lifted from as yet untitled (we think!) EP is the sweet folky pop of 'One Type Of Dark'. A songs which asks the question "is there just one type of dark", and without wishing to put a dampener on things or ruin any of this track's childlike magic we can say, no, there is not just one type of dark. Even without a philosophical debate, a quick look in the dictionary will tell you that.
But that's not the point of course, and 'One Type Of Dark' is built from the same inquisitive nature and childlike innocence that fairy tales are made of. Instead of a weird and wonderful read we get an instantly lovable pop song that could happily be filed in your collection next to Alex Winston (unless you've got everything listed alphabetically of course). It makes us wonder what other sugary treats Ginger & The Ghost have got lined up for us and I guess we'll find out in a few weeks, but until then this candy-coated delight will serve as a perfect appetiser.
