S A F - Fast

Single review by KevW

We missed out on the debut EP by Anglo-French brother and sister duo S A F when it was released earlier this year, but by all accounts it seems to have been very good indeed and has handily led them on to the next stage in their short career so far. We say short career, and as S A F this is indeed the case, however they've both been involved in other musical projects in the past, including Yuksek, Nouvelle Vague and FareWell Poetry. The success of the 'Nailstrom EP' has led to a European tour alongside Archive, who also provides a remix of new single 'Fast'.

It's easy to see what the fuss is about, 'Fast' is a carefully considered song yet one that sounds entirely natural despite the work that must have been put into its creation. Starting with some piano and shuffling drums, it's a song that uses the slow-build technique to gradually add more and more sounds including synths, guitar and extra percussion until it's bordering on the epic side of things. From humble beginnings comes a quite majestic sounding piece that is smart enough to know when enough is enough, cutting itself off before it reaches overkill, making 'Fast' is an incredibly well put together single.
